At The Speer we believe good journalism is the nervous system of a community. To write a story is to sense and make sense of one’s surroundings. After the shuttering of The Rocky Mountain News in 2009 and the inexorable decline of The Daily Camera and Denver Post, we started to wonder who was going to tell the story of our state. To that end, we’ve designed The Speer as a volunteer run platform with a broad mandate to keep Colorado curious, critical, and informed.
